Young dancers strut their stuff at a Madina Village singsing

Young dancers, singsing, Madina Village, New Ireland. PC084903

Young children take part enjoy a traditional style singsing at Madina Village. Do they get all the steps right? No, but no-one is terribly concerned about that -- one day they will and then one day they will pass on the singsing to their own children. This singsing, composed by Madina resident, Tamun, tells the story of how villagers went to work in the Wau-Bulolo gold fields in the 1930s. Singsings have many purposes and many expressions.

Our extensive village links mean we can put you right into the middle of singsings as our guest where you can be entertained and snap or video away to your hearts' content.
